The exam

The RACS GSSE at a glance

The Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE) is two online exams of 150 minutes each, held on consecutive days, with no negative marking. The Anatomy exam has 60 multiple-choice questions, all Type X (four true/false statements, one mark each), plus 20 anatomy spot test questions. The Pathology and Physiology exam has 125 multiple-choice questions: Type A (single best answer) and Type B (statement and reason) worth one mark each, and Type X worth up to four. ClintixPro covers the multiple-choice questions in both exams; it does not currently cover the anatomy spot test. The RACS GSSE module is new and in beta: live and fully usable, with candidates’ feedback shaping what we add next.

The problem

Effort isn't the problem. Direction is.

You're preparing around full clinical rosters, so every hour has to count. It's easy to spend those hours on what you already know, because nothing tells you what you don't. ClintixPro does: it finds the domains costing you marks and points your limited study time there.

Your pass likelihood, built from your full exam results, so you know whether you’re ready to sit and what to fix if you’re not.

What you get

Preparation built around the RACS GSSE

  • Practice in all three GSSE question types: single best answer (Type A), statement and reason (Type B) and four true/false statements (Type X), mixed the way each paper mixes them.
  • Anatomy, Pathology and Physiology questions, weighted to your weakest domains.
  • An AI tutor behind every wrong answer. It explains the concept at the depth you need, so you understand it rather than memorise it.
  • Timed mock papers marked as RACS marks them: a Type X question is worth up to four marks, and your report shows each statement you judged.Standard & Intensive
  • Your exam readiness score: a live read on how likely you are to pass, so you know when you’re ready to sit, and what to fix if you’re not.Standard & Intensive
  • Syllabus coverage: every topic you’ve practised, and every one you haven’t.Standard & Intensive
  • Your standing against your cohort: see where you sit on the curve, completely anonymously.Standard & Intensive
Supervisor Mode Standard & Intensive

Bring your supervisor into your preparation

Your DEMT or exam supervisor can see where you're falling short and help you work on it, so they don't have to keep asking how you're going. It's off until you switch it on, and it costs your supervisor nothing. You give them a connection code, and once they connect, you accept. Here's what they can see:

  • how ready you are to pass, and which domains are holding you back
  • how much of the syllabus you’ve covered, and how much you’ve practised
  • which topics you should tackle next
  • how you compare with your cohort, anonymously
  • the trends across all the trainees they supervise

They can also set you targeted exams and help shape your approach to the paper. They can't see your tutor chats or your individual answers, and you can stop sharing whenever you like. When you do, their access ends.

FAQ

Questions about RACS GSSE preparation

What is the RACS GSSE?

The Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE) is the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons exam in anatomy, pathology and physiology. Every surgical specialty training board requires it for selection. It is two 150-minute online exams, held on consecutive days.

How many questions are in the GSSE?

The Anatomy exam has 60 multiple-choice questions, all Type X, plus 20 anatomy spot test questions. The Pathology and Physiology exam has 125 multiple-choice questions: 65 Pathology and 60 Physiology. Each exam is 150 minutes, with no negative marking.

When is the next GSSE sitting?

RACS lists sittings on 10 and 11 February 2027 (registration 10 November to 1 December 2026) and 9 and 10 June 2027 (registration 16 March to 6 April 2027), plus an October sitting for prevocational doctors. Check RACS’s GSSE dates and locations page for current dates.

How do you pass the GSSE?

You need the minimum score in each of Anatomy, Pathology and Physiology, and the minimum overall score. Falling below the minimum in any one component fails the exam, whatever your overall mark. RACS sets the minimums after each sitting.

Which parts of the GSSE does ClintixPro cover?

The multiple-choice questions in both exams: Anatomy, Pathology and Physiology, in Type A, Type B and Type X formats. It does not currently cover the anatomy spot test.

How is the GSSE marked?

There is no negative marking. Type A and Type B questions are worth one mark. A Type X question has four true/false statements worth one mark each, so it is worth up to four. ClintixPro’s mock papers add up marks the same way. Check RACS’s GSSE pages for the current format.

How is ClintixPro different from a question bank?

A question bank gives you questions. ClintixPro finds which domains are costing you marks, shifts your practice towards them, and tutors the concept behind every wrong answer.

I work full-time. Is it realistic?

Yes. ClintixPro focuses each session on the domains costing you most, so short sessions still count.

The RACS GSSE module is in beta. What does that mean?

The module is live and fully usable. Beta means it is new, and candidates’ feedback is shaping what we add next.
